PS5 Disc vs Digital Edition: Which Is Better?

Both PS5 versions have the same processor, graphics, controller and 825GB storage. Games run identically. The only difference is the Blu-ray disc drive.
Choose the Disc version if
- You buy boxed games, which are often cheaper in shops and on sale.
- You want to resell or trade games you finish.
- You share games with friends or family.
- You watch Blu-ray or 4K Blu-ray films.
Choose the Digital Edition if
- You buy games on the PlayStation Store or use PlayStation Plus.
- You never want to swap discs.
- You want the lower console price today.
The long-term cost
The Digital Edition costs less upfront, but you can only buy games from the PlayStation Store. Disc players can pick the cheaper of the Store or a shop, and get money back by reselling. If you buy several games a year, the Disc version often costs less overall.
