PS5 Pro vs PS5 Slim vs PS5 Digital: Which Should You Buy?
Miles Telecom ·

Sony sells the PlayStation 5 in several versions, and the names can be confusing. This guide explains the real differences between the PS5 Pro, the PS5 Slim and the Digital Edition so you buy the one that fits how you play.
The short answer
- Most players: a standard PS5 (Disc or Digital) plays every PS5 game and is the best value.
- You buy used or boxed games: choose a model with a disc drive.
- You have a high-end 4K TV and want the sharpest graphics: consider the PS5 Pro.
Key differences
| PS5 (original) | PS5 Slim | PS5 Pro | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Built-in storage | 825GB | 1TB | 2TB |
| Disc drive | Disc or Digital version | Disc, or Digital with add-on drive support | No drive included; add-on drive sold separately |
| Graphics | Up to 4K | Same performance as original | Stronger GPU and AI upscaling (PSSR) in enhanced games |
| Size | Largest | Smaller and lighter | Similar to Slim, slightly taller |
Important: the PS5 Slim is not faster than the original PS5. It is smaller and has more storage, but games run the same. Only the PS5 Pro adds extra graphics power.
Disc or Digital?
The Disc version plays Blu-ray game discs and films. The Digital Edition only installs games from the PlayStation Store. Disc games can be resold or swapped with friends, which saves money over time. Read our full Disc vs Digital guide.
Who should buy the PS5 Pro?
The Pro makes sense if you own a good 4K TV, play graphics-heavy games and want higher frame rates with sharper images. If you play on a 1080p TV or mostly play online shooters and sports games, a standard PS5 gives almost the same experience for less. See Is the PS5 Pro worth buying?
